How to change the leadscrew assembly
You may have three reasons to change the leadscrew assembly (cartridge) of your tapping unit:
- You plan to re-use the tapping unit to thread with a different tap dimension,
- The leadscrew is worn out,
- Or you just want to service the tapping unit.
We recommend you to contact PRONIC first if you plan to re-use the tapping unit with a different tap size, since an adjusted gear box ratio may be required to fit your new project parameters.

► Dismounting the leadscrew assembly
1. Unscrew the anti-rotation plate (4 x CHC screws). Hold the anti-rotation plate in place during this operation, since it is spring loaded.
| |
2. Remove the anti-rotation plate carefully.
Don't loose the small spring (2)...

► Mounting the leadscrew assembly
| Notice for multi tap tapping units:
If you run a multi tap tapping unit using the leadscrew assembly technology (MxB / MxD models), height of the taps has to be synchronized. Taps must stick out of the tapping unit with the same distance, except if your part to tap has different tapping levels.
Please, refer to your tapping unit handbook for more information.
1. Slide in the new leadscrew assembly into the tapping unit housing. Make sure the square of the tap holder engage smoothly into the square inside the tapping head.
| |
2. Mount the anti-rotation plate. Don't forget to install the "axial play spring" in between the leadscrew assembly and the anti-rotation plate. And engage properly the pin located in the anti-rotation plate in the groove of the leadcrew assembly.
| |
3. Screw the anti-rotation plate.
| |
4. With multitap units, install taps into the tapping head, and check height between taps. In most cases, it is required to have the taps at the same height.
| |
5. If height of one tap has to be adjusted, remove the corresponding leadscrew assembly, and rotate the tap holder into its template gear until it moves the corresponding value.
